What the Game Means to Me

Hello ghosties,

First of all, we want to thank you all for your tremendous support following the official release of Ghost on the Shore on Steam.

Recent weeks have been a trying time for all, and launching our game over this period—a project that has come to fruition after three years—has naturally been stressful, but we are proud of what we have achieved and very pleased to share a little something of ourselves out into the world.

We are humbled and overwhelmed by the warm reception. We’ve put our hearts and souls into Ghost on the Shore, and to see people welcome the game with open arms means the world to us.

As you explore more of the Rogue Islands, you’ll make crucial choices that will define your journey. The game is designed to evoke various emotions, and by the end, it will most likely mean different things to different people—just like dreams or distant memories.

like Charlie is a studio built around the concept of telling stories in the format of interactive fiction. We did it firstly with Marie’s Room and we wanted to expand on this format for Ghost on the Shore. Telling stories makes us human. We want to take this opportunity to share our story and tell you a little bit about what the game means to us, whether it’s the narrative itself, or the experience collaborating together on the game.

“Ghost on the Shore, to me, is a journey about discovering what love is and what it really means. Finding that one person through everything and seeing that love comes in different shapes and forms.”

—Kenny, Co-Founder & Lead Artist

“The core of the story came to me in a dream in which I had died and could only observe my partner’s immense grief from afar as they mourned, dealt with the loss and eventually moved on. This wrenching feeling of not being able to let go eventually blossomed into the game.”

—Dagmar, Co-Founder & Narrative Designer

“To me, Ghost on the Shore is a way to stay connected to Dagmar, Kenny, Dries & Alex. And of course, also to the people I've met while working on the game, like Kristi, Eline & Kaat.”

—Steven, Gameplay Designer

“I'm just here for the beer! But seriously, much like Steven, Gots keeps me in touch and working with this awesome team that I would otherwise miss too much.”

—Alex, Programmer

“To me, it's working with people I love (and love working with). Having a place where I can create with the trust and support of such talented people is amazing.”

—Dries, Sound Designer

“Ghost on the Shore for me has been a giant personal journey. I was extremely lucky to have rolled in here for my internship, and I have learned so much already.”

—Eline, 3D Artist

Again, thank you all for being a part of this fantastic journey. It certainly hasn’t been easy, but we couldn’t have done any of this without your continuous support.

Stay safe, keep dreaming, and let’s not forget to shine a light on the forgotten shores of our hearts!
